Amit Malviya, national in-charge of BJP’s IT cell, on Sunday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for not congratulating the Indian cricket team after its Asia Cup 2025 victory over Pakistan. Malviya compared the party’s silence to its muted response following India’s military strikes in Operation Sindoor.

“It seems India’s stunning win against Pakistan in the Asia Cup final has left Rahul Gandhi and the entire Congress in a comatose state. Just like after #OperationSindoor, when they couldn’t bring themselves to congratulate the Indian Army for its stupendous strikes,” Malviya wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He added that Congress appeared to be “waiting for permission from Mohsin Naqvi and their other handlers in Pakistan before joining the nation in celebrating the Indian cricket team’s success,” referring to Pakistan Cricket Board chief and ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Malviya accused the Congress of aligning with Pakistan, pointing out that “not even a single social media post” congratulated India for thrashing Pakistan thrice in the tournament. “Once again, Pakistan, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress find themselves on the same side of the divide,” he wrote.

The comments came in the wake of the Asia Cup final drama in Dubai, where India refused to accept the trophy from Naqvi, citing his dual role as PCB chief and Pakistan’s Interior Minister. Pakistan captain labelled India’s refusal as “disrespect” to the game.

Malviya reiterated the reason behind India’s stand: “India refused to accept the Asia Cup and medals because Asian Cricket Council chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Interior Minister of Pakistan, insisted on presenting them.”
