Bihar Set for New NDA Government on Nov 20; Nitish Kumar Expected to Resign on Nov 19 to Begin Process
Days after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) swept the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, the state is set to install a new government on Thursday, November 20, following the dissolution of the current administration on November 19. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will tender his resignation on Wednesday to formally initiate the government formation process, Janata Dal (United) leader and outgoing minister Vijay Kumar Chowdhary told Hindustan Times.
After Monday’s cabinet meeting, BJP leader and state minister Prem Kumar announced that the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan on November 20. “The current government will be dissolved on the 19th. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and lakhs of people will attend the historic oath-taking ceremony,” he said.
Who Will Be the Chief Minister?
While no official announcement has been made, Nitish Kumar—Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister—is widely expected to return for another term. JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha said preparations were underway for a grand ceremony, adding that PM Modi and senior BJP leaders would be present.
How Many Ministers Will Be Sworn In?
According to earlier reports, NDA partners are considering a portfolio-sharing formula of one ministerial berth for roughly every six MLAs. The alliance includes the BJP, JD(U), Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM), and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) [HAM(S)], aiming for balanced representation in the new cabinet.
Yadav Family Turmoil
As the NDA finalises the new government, the Yadav political family has been hit by internal strife. Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, announced her exit from politics on Saturday, accusing her brother Tejashwi Yadav and his aides of mistreatment.
“I have no family. You can go and ask Sanjay Yadav, Rameez, and Tejashwi Yadav. They are the ones who threw me out of the family,” she claimed.
Following her allegations, four of her sisters reportedly left the family’s Patna residence with their children. Tej Pratap Yadav issued an emotional response, criticising those he believed responsible.
Lalu Prasad Yadav addressed the matter briefly, calling it an “internal family issue” that would be resolved privately. “I am there to deal with it,” he said.
