Big twist in Delhi ‘acid attack’: 5 shocking revelations in DU student case
In a dramatic turn of events, Delhi Police on Monday claimed that the alleged acid attack on a 20-year-old college student was fabricated at the behest of her father, who has now been arrested for staging the incident using a toilet cleaner and for raping the wife of the man his daughter had accused.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, police said the father orchestrated the false attack to avenge a rape complaint filed against him two days earlier.
The initial allegation
On Sunday morning, the student — a second-year BCom candidate enrolled in Delhi University’s Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board — claimed that three men, Jitender, Ishan, and Arman (all relatives), had thrown acid on her while she was heading to class. She was admitted to RML Hospital with burn injuries on her hands.
At first, police said the alleged attacker had been “stalking her for months.” But investigators later discovered inconsistencies in her story and evidence that Jitender was not near the scene of the alleged attack.
Key police findings
-
Staged attack:
The student’s father allegedly confessed that he and his daughter faked the attack to frame the woman’s husband and his relatives — with whom he had ongoing personal and legal disputes. -
Self-inflicted injuries:
Investigators now believe the woman used toilet cleaner from her home to inflict minor burns on herself. “We have CCTV footage and call records that contradict her statement,” said Special CP Ravindra Singh Yadav. -
Rape and blackmail case:
Two days before the alleged acid attack, the wife of Jitender had filed a complaint accusing the student’s father of rape and blackmail. She told police he had sexually assaulted her during her employment at his factory between 2021 and 2024 and had threatened to leak private videos. When summoned for questioning, the accused sent his lawyer and a religious preacher in his place. Police later tracked him down to Sangam Vihar, where he was arrested late Monday.
-
Alibi confirmed:
The other two men named in the acid attack were found to be in Agra with their mother at the time. Police also noted that the student is distantly related to the rape complainant and has a past history of an acid attack in 2018, as well as a property dispute with Jitender’s family. -
CCTV evidence:
Surveillance footage showed the student leaving home with her brother on a two-wheeler before taking an e-rickshaw from Ashok Vihar. None of the accused appeared in the footage. Police are now questioning why her brother did not drop her directly at college, as he has since become unavailable for questioning.
Investigators found no traces of acid at the alleged crime scene, and doctors are still reviewing the nature of her burn injuries.
