Taking a sharp dig at Pakistan at the United Nations, BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday accused it of serious violations under the UN agenda on children and armed conflict (CAAC).

Speaking during a session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on the Agenda for the Promotion and Protection of Child Rights, Dubey contrasted India’s welfare initiatives with Pakistan’s record, citing the latter’s defeat in Operation Sindoor. He also thanked the UN for acknowledging India’s efforts to safeguard child rights, news agency ANI reported.

Creating an enabling environment for the protection and holistic development of children is a matter of national importance. We thank the Special Rapporteur for commending India’s efforts — including the Child Helpline 1098, which provides emergency support to children at risk, and the Ujjwala Yojana, which focuses on preventing and rehabilitating children from trafficking and sexual exploitation,” Dubey said.

Calling Pakistan “one of the most serious violators” of the CAAC agenda, he condemned Islamabad’s attempt to “divert attention from the grave abuses against children within its borders,” referencing the UN Secretary-General’s 2025 report on child rights and cross-border terrorism.

“Beyond their borders, the same report detailed attacks by Pakistan on health workers and schools—particularly girls’ schools—and incidents along the Afghanistan border where cross-border shelling and airstrikes by Pakistan were directly responsible for killing and maiming Afghan children,” he said.

Dubey also referred to Operation Sindoor, calling it India’s “measured response” to the April 22, 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed.

“In a considered and balanced response, India exercised its legitimate right to defend its people against terrorism, carrying out surgical strikes on nine terrorist hideouts under Operation Sindoor in May 2025,” he said, adding that Pakistan, in contrast, “deliberately targeted border villages,” leading to civilian deaths, including children.

Concluding his address, Dubey urged Pakistan to “look at itself in the mirror” before preaching to others.

Later, in a post on X, he wrote:

“Today, under the responsibility given by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistan was reprimanded in the United Nations for its defeat in Operation Sindoor and its current situation.”
