At Least 9 Dead as Bus Overturns in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju District
At least nine people were killed after a bus overturned on the ghat road between Chinturu and Bhadrachalam in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district, ASR District Collector Dinesh Kumar said on Friday. Several injured passengers were rushed to Bhadrachalam Hospital for treatment. Authorities are working to determine the cause of the crash and identify the victims.
In a separate tragedy, at least 21 people from Assam’s Tinsukia district are feared dead after a mini-truck plunged into a deep gorge in Arunachal Pradesh’s Anjaw district. The vehicle, carrying 22 people including the driver, skidded off the Hayuliang–Chaglagam road on December 8 while the group was travelling for construction-related work.
Tinsukia Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar said that only one person survived the fall. “As per information from Arunachal Pradesh authorities, 21 people are feared dead. All are from Tinsukia district,” he told ANI.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia relief of ₹2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured under the PM National Relief Fund. He also offered condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
