Close on the heels of capturing a Pakistani national, the Indian Army on Sunday thwarted a major infiltration attempt by heavily armed Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gambhir sector of Rajouri district.

Alert troops detected suspicious movement in the rugged, foliage-covered terrain and acted swiftly in coordination with the BSF, successfully apprehending a key guide believed to be facilitating the infiltration.

“The swift and decisive action by alert troops led to the capture of a Pakistani guide, effectively derailing the infiltration attempt and likely injuring several of the fleeing terrorists,” the Army said in a statement.

The captured individual has been identified as Mohammad Arib Ahmed, son of Mohammad Yousuf, from Detote village in the Nikiyal area of Kotli district, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

According to a defence official, intelligence had pointed to fresh attempts to push terrorists across the LoC. A joint counter-infiltration operation was launched, and the infiltrating group—comprising four to five armed JeM terrorists—was detected trying to exploit difficult terrain and adverse weather.

“One guide was apprehended, while the remaining terrorists, believed to be injured during the encounter, managed to retreat across the LoC,” the official said.

A follow-up search operation yielded sensitive recoveries, including a mobile phone and Pakistani currency.

During initial questioning, Arib Ahmed reportedly admitted to being a PoK resident operating under the instructions of Pakistan Army officers posted at forward positions. He also confirmed that the JeM group was carrying arms, ammunition, and other warlike stores.

The captured guide is currently under detailed interrogation by a joint team, with officials stating that the intelligence gathered will further bolster the counter-infiltration grid.
