Apple Pulls ICE-Tracking App After Trump Administration Pressure
Apple confirmed Thursday it had removed ICEBlock—the most downloaded app for tracking US Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity—from its App Store after a request from the Trump administration.
The app, created by Texas developer Joshua Aaron, alerted users when ICE agents were nearby. Federal officials argued it endangered law enforcement. “Based on information we’ve received from law enforcement about the safety risks associated with ICEBlock, we have removed it and similar apps,” Apple said in a statement.
Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox Business the Justice Department directly contacted Apple to demand the app’s removal, adding: “ICEBlock is designed to put ICE agents at risk just for doing their jobs, and violence against law enforcement is an intolerable red line.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Bondi have also warned Aaron that he is “not protected” by the Constitution and could face prosecution.
The move comes as ICE has carried out aggressive raids under Trump’s second term, not only targeting undocumented immigrants but also legal residents accused of pro-Palestinian activism. Rights advocates say the administration’s actions threaten free speech and due process.
Apple’s compliance is likely to renew scrutiny of Silicon Valley’s cooperative posture toward the Trump White House.
