Another Cloudburst Strikes J&K: 4 Dead in Kathua District
A cloudburst in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir left four people dead and six others injured, officials said on Sunday (August 17, 2025).
The incident occurred at Jod Ghati village in Rajbagh during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, cutting off access to the area and damaging land and property. After intensive efforts, a joint team of police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the spot and joined local volunteers in rescue work.
So far, four bodies have been recovered and six injured persons rescued and shifted to hospital, officials confirmed.
Heavy rains also triggered landslides in Bagard and Changda villages under Kathua police station, and in Dilwan-Hutli under Lakhanpur police station, though no major damage was reported.
With water levels in several streams rising sharply and the Ujh river flowing close to the danger mark, the district administration has urged residents to stay away from water bodies for their safety.
