Amit Shah Reviews J&K Security, Calls for Mission-Mode Push for Terror-Free Region

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday directed all security agencies deployed in Jammu and Kashmir to remain on high alert and work in close coordination to ensure that the gains achieved since the abrogation of Article 370 are sustained.

At a high-level review meeting held in New Delhi, Shah assured the forces that the government would provide all necessary resources to achieve the goal of a “terror-free Jammu and Kashmir” at the earliest. The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, senior J&K officials and chiefs of central armed police forces.

Officials said the review was conducted ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, amid intensified counter-terror operations in recent weeks. Security forces have launched sustained combing operations in mountainous and forested areas, while maintaining heightened vigilance against infiltration attempts from across the border.

Addressing the meeting, Shah reiterated the Centre’s commitment to establishing lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir and to completely eliminating terrorism. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, he said the “terror ecosystem in J&K has been crippled” due to sustained and coordinated government efforts.

Commending the security forces for strengthening the region’s security environment, Shah emphasised that counter-terror operations targeting terrorist infrastructure and terror financing must continue in a mission mode.

As reported by Hindustan Times last month, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Jammu has flagged the re-emergence of at least nine Jaish-e-Mohammed terror launch pads across the international border in Pakistan. These facilities had earlier been shut down following Operation Sindoor.

On April 22 last year, a terror attack at the Baisaran meadow pushed India and Pakistan to the brink of a full-scale conflict. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, striking terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), before a ceasefire was announced on May 10.
