Ameet Satam Appointed BJP Mumbai Unit President Ahead of BMC Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday appointed three-term MLA Ameet Satam as the new president of its Mumbai unit, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced.
The decision comes ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, expected later this year. Fadnavis expressed confidence that under Satam’s leadership, the party would aim to reclaim control of the city’s civic body.
Satam, 49, has represented the Andheri West assembly constituency for three consecutive terms and has been a longstanding active member of the party.
Speaking at the state BJP headquarters, Fadnavis highlighted the party’s strong performance in last year’s Maharashtra assembly polls and the dominance built in Mumbai under outgoing city unit chief Ashish Shelar.
“With Shelar taking on ministerial responsibilities, it was necessary to appoint a new Mumbai unit president. After discussions led by state BJP president Ravindra Chavan and senior leaders, Ameet Satam has been chosen for the post,” Fadnavis said.
The chief minister added that Satam has held several key roles over the years and is recognised as a capable and assertive legislator familiar with Mumbai’s pressing issues.
“I am confident that under his leadership, the BJP will maintain its winning momentum in the upcoming civic elections and reclaim power in the BMC,” Fadnavis said. He also noted that with support from senior state and city leaders, the party is poised to set new records in the civic body polls.
