Amarnath Yatra 2024: Strict Security Protocols, No Solo or Rail Travel Allowed as Pilgrimage Begins July 3

17

As the sacred Amarnath Yatra prepares to commence on July 3, authorities have rolled out heightened security and logistical measures in the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. This year, all pilgrims must travel in organised security convoys — solo travel has been strictly banned.

Travel Only in Security Convoys

Inspector General of Police (IGP) B.S. Tooti announced that beginning July 1, all pilgrims must move within government-supervised convoys. National Highway 44, running from Lakhanpur to Jammu, will be fully secured, with intensified CCTV surveillance. Pilgrims have been advised to avoid independent travel under any circumstances.

RFID Tracking and 24/7 Vehicle Monitoring

At reception centres, every pilgrim will be issued an RFID card to enable real-time tracking. Road Opening Parties (ROPs) will monitor all vehicles along the Yatra route to ensure safety and swift emergency response if needed.

Enhanced Amenities for Pilgrims

Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar stated that infrastructure has been significantly upgraded to accommodate the expected 5 lakh pilgrims. Over 106 shelter centres — capable of housing nearly 50,000 people — have been prepared. Food, lodging, and medical services will be available around the clock.

Offline Registration and Mandatory Medical Checks

Offline registration opened on June 30 at the Bhagwatinagar base camp. Pilgrims must carry a valid medical certificate and obtain an RFID card from one of five designated centres. Administrative and security personnel have been stationed at 180 key points along the Yatra route.

Rail Travel Prohibited

In a key change this year, authorities have banned rail travel for all Yatra pilgrims. All participants must use designated road routes under strict convoy security. District-level protocols for the Budha Amarnath Yatra have also been issued.

Inauguration and Darshan Options

The pilgrimage will be officially flagged off by the Lieutenant Governor on July 2. Pilgrims can register for three types of darshan through both online portals and select bank branches.

With tight security coordination, real-time tracking, and enhanced facilities, officials aim to ensure a safe and well-managed Amarnath Yatra for all devotees in 2024.
