Al Jazeera Journalist Anas Al Sharif’s Final Message Posted After Death in Gaza Strike

The X account of Anas Al Sharif — one of four Al Jazeera journalists and an assistant killed in a strike in Gaza — on Monday carried a chilling post he had asked to be published if he died.

“This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice,” the post began. Minutes before his death, the 28-year-old had also written that Israel was “intensely bombarding Gaza City for more than two hours.”

Al Sharif and his colleagues were killed on Sunday when a tent near Shifa Hospital in eastern Gaza City was hit. Israel’s military alleged he was a Hamas cell leader involved in rocket attacks — a claim rights advocates dismissed as unsubstantiated, saying he was targeted for his frontline reporting.

In his message, Al Sharif wrote of dedicating his life to giving a voice to the people of Gaza, entrusting readers with “Palestine, its people, and its children” and urging them to “be bridges toward the liberation of the land.” He named his wife, two children, and mother, asking that they be supported after his death, and prayed to be accepted “among the martyrs.”

Al Jazeera called him “one of Gaza’s bravest journalists” and described the strike as “a desperate attempt to silence voices ahead of the occupation of Gaza.” The other journalists killed were Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, and Mohammed Noufal.
