Ajay Gupta, a business partner of Saurabh Luthra—the owner of the Goa nightclub where a devastating fire killed 25 people—gave his first public remarks on Wednesday after being detained by Delhi Police.

As officers escorted him from a vehicle, Gupta was surrounded by reporters who pressed him on the cause of the blaze, the nightclub’s safety measures, and the whereabouts of its primary owners. Gupta responded briefly: “I am just a partner. I don’t know anything.”

The fire broke out late Saturday night at Birch by Romeo Lane, a popular club in Goa’s Arpora. In the hours that followed, owners Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra boarded an IndiGo flight to Phuket, Thailand.

Authorities have since issued an Interpol Blue Corner Notice for the brothers. A Look Out Circular was also in place for Gupta before he was detained.

Police say Gupta will be flown to Goa for further questioning as the investigation continues.
