Amid dense fog and poor visibility across Delhi and several parts of northern India, multiple airlines—including Air India, SpiceJet and IndiGo—issued travel advisories on Friday, warning passengers of possible flight disruptions. Delhi Airport also released a similar advisory, urging travellers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Air India said on Thursday that forecasts of dense fog over Delhi and parts of northern and eastern India could impact flight schedules, with potential cascading effects across its network. In a post on X, the airline said it had taken proactive measures to minimise disruptions and assured passengers that ground staff would assist with alternative arrangements in case of delays or cancellations.

The airline added that passengers booked on certain affected flights would receive advance alerts and could reschedule their journey without additional charges or opt for a full refund. Travellers were advised to check flight status in advance.

IndiGo also issued an advisory early Friday, citing morning fog across northern India. “Customers travelling in the early hours may experience delays or revised timings,” the airline said, adding that it was closely monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with air traffic authorities to reduce inconvenience.

SpiceJet, too, posted a weather update on X, warning that low visibility in Delhi could affect all departures, arrivals and consequential flights.

Delhi Airport said CAT III operations—used to facilitate aircraft landings in extremely low visibility—had been initiated due to the dense fog, leading to delays and disruptions. Airport authorities said on-ground teams were working closely with stakeholders to assist passengers.

Earlier on Thursday, visibility across Delhi-NCR dropped to as low as 100 metres around 6 am, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). At least 27 flights were cancelled and around 500 were delayed, officials familiar with the matter said.
