Air India Flight Returns to Delhi After Engine Fire Warning
An Air India flight from Delhi to Indore was forced to return to the capital shortly after takeoff on Sunday after the cockpit crew received a fire warning from the aircraft’s right engine.
Flight AI2913 took off from Delhi earlier in the day but was promptly turned around when pilots detected a potential engine fire, the airline said. Acting according to safety protocols, the crew shut down the affected engine and safely brought the aircraft back.
Passengers were transferred to an alternative aircraft, which will operate the flight to Indore. “The aircraft has been grounded for inspection. The regulator has been duly informed of the incident. We regret the inconvenience caused. At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew is our top priority,” the airline said.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified. The incident follows a similar case last month when an Air India Express flight to Doha from Calicut returned a few hours after takeoff due to a technical fault.
