Ahmedabad Air India Crash: Tata Group Announces ₹1 Crore Compensation for Families of Victims
Hours after the tragic crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad that claimed over 200 lives, Tata Group on Thursday announced an ex gratia compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of those who lost their lives.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Air India and Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran expressed his “deepest condolences” to the bereaved families. “Our immediate focus is on supporting the affected individuals and their families,” he said, adding that the airline is doing “everything in our power” to assist.
“We are fully supporting emergency response teams on the ground and have mobilised all resources to provide care and assistance to the impacted families,” Chandrasekaran added.
He noted that an emergency response centre and support team had been activated to provide verified updates and help families stay informed.
Over 204 Bodies Recovered So Far
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik told Reuters that more than 204 bodies had been recovered from the crash site. The toll includes both passengers and ground casualties, as the aircraft crashed into the residential quarters of BJ Medical College shortly after takeoff.
Air India Arranges Relief Flights for Victims’ Families
To support families affected by the tragedy, Air India is operating two special relief flights—one from Delhi and another from Mumbai to Ahmedabad—departing at 11 PM on Thursday. Return flights from Ahmedabad to Delhi and Mumbai are also being arranged.
Air India issued a statement on X:

The airline has assured ongoing support and pledged to continue sharing verified updates as more information becomes available.
