Nana Patekar Death: PM Modi, Rajnath Singh And Leaders Pay Tribute
Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 on Thursday morning after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.
Following his death, tributes poured in from across the political and film fraternity, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior leaders remembering the actor’s remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.
PM Modi Pays Tribute To Nana Patekar
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Patekar’s death had left a deep void in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
“Few actors possessed the intensity, individuality and unmistakable presence that Shri Nana Patekar Ji had,” Modi said in a post on X.
The Prime Minister highlighted Patekar’s versatility and creativity, saying he gave audiences characters that would be remembered for generations. He also recalled the actor’s frank and forthright personality.
“Shri Nana Patekar’s contribution to Hindi and Marathi cinema was immense. His passing leaves a deep void. My condolences to his family, friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” Modi wrote.
Devendra Fadnavis Recalls Actor’s Contribution
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described Patekar’s death as a “massive shock to the heart” and recalled his association with the veteran actor.
Fadnavis said Patekar had “gifted an entire era” to Marathi and Hindi cinema, adding that his portrayal of patriotic characters had deeply connected with audiences.
Referring to films such as Krantiveer and Natsamrat, Fadnavis praised Patekar’s powerful performances and said his departure represented a profound loss for Indian cinema.
The Maharashtra chief minister also highlighted Patekar’s social work. He said the actor supported the Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan and, along with actor Makarand Anaspure, helped establish the Naam Foundation and worked for rural communities.
Other Leaders Mourn Nana Patekar’s Death
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari also paid tribute, describing Patekar as one of Indian cinema’s “fiercest, most genuine and irreplaceable voices.”
Adhikari recalled the actor’s performances in Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar and Ab Tak Chhappan, saying his distinctive acting style had set a benchmark in Indian cinema.
He also praised Patekar’s simplicity, humility and commitment to social causes and rural communities.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Patekar possessed “extraordinary versatility and intensity,” recalling his performances in films including Ankush, Prahaar and Krantiveer.
“Nana Patekar was not merely an actor; he was an institution in himself,” Singh wrote, adding that his contribution to Indian cinema would continue to inspire generations.
BJP, DMK And Karnataka Leaders Pay Tribute
Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi also mourned the actor’s death, saying he was bidding “adieu” to the veteran performer.
BJP national general secretary Biplab Kumar Deb remembered Patekar for his powerful performances, distinctive voice and unmatched intensity, citing films such as Ankush, Prahaar and Krantiveer.
DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi said Patekar’s powerful performances, distinctive presence and contribution to Hindi and regional cinema would remain etched in the memories of audiences.
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also condoled the actor’s death, praising his extraordinary talent and memorable screen performances.
Shivakumar additionally highlighted Patekar’s compassion for farmers and his commitment to social causes, extending condolences to his family and millions of admirers.
Nana Patekar’s death marks the end of a celebrated career spanning decades, during which he established himself as one of the most distinctive performers in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
