Pakistan Reacts After India’s UN Map Remarks, Raises Jammu And Kashmir Again

Pakistan on Monday reacted to India’s clarification on the map of Jammu and Kashmir, calling New Delhi’s assertion “baseless” in what appeared to be another attempt to provoke India.

The statement from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs came a day after India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a clarification concerning the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal’s remarks followed India’s support for an African Union resolution seeking to “rebalance” the world map through more accurate representation of continental landmasses.

India’s clarification came two days after it voted in favour of a UN General Assembly resolution aimed at promoting a more accurate representation of the world’s continents.

In a statement on Sunday, Jaiswal said India supported the resolution based on the principle of “promoting equal-area cartographic representation.”

“We also highlighted that the resolution does not constitute endorsement of any specific map, projection or depiction of national boundaries,” the MEA said.
