CNG prices hiked by ₹3.89/kg in Delhi-NCR: Check new city-wise rates

CNG prices in Delhi and neighbouring cities rose by ₹3.89 per kg on Saturday, taking the price in the national capital to ₹86.98 per kg. The latest increase comes after a ₹2 per kg hike in late May, amid disruptions to global energy supplies caused by the West Asia conflict.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) said imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) accounts for a significant share of the gas used for CNG supplies. Spot LNG prices have surged since the conflict began, increasing input costs.

“With international LNG prices remaining elevated and the cost impact becoming increasingly significant, a calibrated revision of ₹3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partially offset the increase in input gas cost,” IGL said.

CNG prices in Delhi-NCR

The revised prices came into effect at 6 am on Saturday. According to IGL, the new rates are:

• Delhi: ₹86.98 per kg
• Noida: ₹95.59 per kg
• Gurugram: ₹92.01 per kg
• Greater Noida: ₹95.59 per kg
• Ghaziabad: ₹95.59 per kg
• Meerut: ₹95.47 per kg

Why have CNG prices increased?

The latest hike has been linked to higher international LNG prices amid tensions in West Asia. Disruptions to energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supplies, have added to concerns over availability and pushed up prices.

Rising LNG demand in Europe ahead of the winter season has further increased pressure on global energy markets.

The increase is likely to raise operating costs for commuters and transport operators across Delhi-NCR, where CNG is widely used in cars, auto-rickshaws, taxis and commercial vehicles.

Auto drivers feel the pinch

CNG prices had already been increased to ₹88.70 per kg in May, prompting auto-rickshaw drivers in Noida to demand a fare revision.

At the time, driver Ajeej Alam told HT that rising costs were making it increasingly difficult to support his family.

“It is hard to survive in the National Capital Region (NCR) in the wake of price rise and, because of the inflation, it is difficult to save money even for the next day,” the 29-year-old driver said.
