‘You’ll have to kill me’: Mamata Banerjee accuses BJP of targeting TMC leaders

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched a blistering attack on the BJP, accusing it of systematically targeting Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and workers and declaring that the party would have to “kill” her if it wanted to silence her or destroy the TMC.

Breaking her silence on the recent rebellion within the party, Banerjee alleged that the BJP had gone to every extent to intimidate TMC leaders and weaken the organisation.

“To silence me, you would have to kill me. Yes, you didn’t spare any effort on that,” Banerjee said in a video message.

The TMC chief also claimed that several senior party leaders had been subjected to attacks and harassment, naming Mahua Moitra, Abhishek Banerjee and Kalyan Banerjee among those she said had been targeted.

“Whom haven’t you assaulted? You attacked Mahua, Abhishek, Kalyan. You attacked my home,” she alleged.

Banerjee’s remarks come amid political turbulence in the TMC following recent defections and heightened confrontation between the party and the BJP in West Bengal.
