Russian Strikes Kill Four in Kharkiv Region as Civilian Toll Mounts
Russian attacks on Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region killed four people and injured at least 10 others early Tuesday, regional officials said.
Kharkiv Governor Oleg Synegubov said Russian forces struck the city of Chuguiv, killing four people, including a 22-year-old woman. The attack also sparked fires, damaged at least 18 vehicles, shattered windows, and scarred the facades of residential apartment buildings.
In a separate update, Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov reported that 10 people were wounded in attacks on the regional capital.
The latest strikes come amid an escalation in daily cross-border attacks. Russia has stepped up bombardments targeting Ukrainian cities, while Ukraine has responded with drone strikes deeper inside Russian territory, saying its operations are focused primarily on military and energy infrastructure.
According to United Nations estimates released in April, at least 15,850 civilians have been killed in Ukrainian-held areas since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022. The UN also recorded more than 2,800 civilian deaths in Russian-controlled territories, with over 44,800 people wounded across both Ukrainian- and Russian-occupied areas.
