Sensex at day’s low, down 200 pts, Nifty below 24,000; Amara Raja jumps 12%

The Nifty50 and the Sensex were moving in a narrow range, as investors focused on the geopolitical situation in West Asia.

As of 12:52 PM, the Nifty50 was down 47.80 points or 0.20 per cent at 23,986.30, and the Sensex fell 280.48 points or 0.37 per cent to 76,208.48.

In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap and the Nifty SmallCap indices were trading 0.39 per cent and 0.82 per cent higher, respectively. The Nifty MidCap 100 scaled a new high of 62,324.20.

Sector-wise, the Nifty Consumer Durable, the Nifty PSU Bank, and the Nifty Private underperformed, while the Nifty IT and the Nifty Metal outperformed.

The US launched fresh strikes in southern Iran on Tuesday morning despite ongoing negotiations. The strikes were conducted to protect US troops from the Iranian forces, reports said, citing US Central Command.

Brent crude rose on Tuesday morning as the US’s strikes on Iran weighed on hopes for a peace deal. The May future contract rose 1.7 per cent to $97.78 per barrel on the Intercontinental Exchange.
