Man Allegedly Pours Sanitiser on Live-in Partner, Attempts to Set Her on Fire in Gurugram: Report
A 19-year-old student was allegedly subjected to a brutal assault by her live-in partner in Gurugram, police said, in a case that has led to the registration of an FIR under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at a flat in the Badshahpur police station area, where the woman, originally from Tripura, was living with the accused, identified as Shivam, a resident of Delhi’s Narela. The woman is currently undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
Police said the FIR was filed on February 19. The woman alleged that she was physically attacked, including being struck with a steel bottle and having her head slammed against a wall. She further accused the man of attempting to set parts of her body on fire after pouring sanitiser and of inflicting injuries with a knife.
The complaint states that the two met through a mobile application last year and later began living together in Gurugram. The woman alleged that the accused repeatedly assaulted her during their time together.
Authorities said the woman was initially taken to a government hospital in Gurugram, where she was declared unfit to give a statement, and was subsequently referred to Safdarjung Hospital. After doctors deemed her fit, her statement was recorded by police.
An investigation is under way, and officials have said appropriate legal action will follow based on the findings.
