Mohan Bhagwat Urges Hindu Families to Have Three Children, Stresses Unity and Vigilance

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday appealed to Hindu families to consider having at least three children, stating that while there is “no threat,” society must remain mindful of long-term demographic trends.

Speaking at a social harmony event, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader cited views that societies with fertility rates below three could face future challenges, adding that newly married couples should be made aware of such concerns. Bhagwat said the broader purpose of marriage extends beyond personal aspirations to “carrying forward creation.”

He also emphasized the need for unity and vigilance within Hindu society. “There is a need to unite and empower Hindus. There is no threat to us but vigilance is necessary,” Bhagwat said. Addressing the gathering at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, he expressed concern over what he described as a declining Hindu population and called for an end to inducement- or coercion-based religious conversions. Bhagwat further urged authorities to identify and deport infiltrators, saying such individuals should be “detected, deleted and deported.”

Highlighting the role of women, Bhagwat described “matrushakti” (women power) as the foundation of the household. He said women should not be viewed as weak and advocated self-defence training, adding that Indian traditions accord women a revered position and value nurturing qualities over physical appearance.
