Arijit Singh Announces Retirement From Playback Singing, Shocks Fans
Singer Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing, leaving fans across the country surprised. The popular artist shared the news through a post on his Instagram account.
In his message, Arijit thanked his listeners for their continued support and said he would no longer take up new playback assignments.
“Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you for giving me so much love over the years. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist. I am calling it off. It was a wonderful journey,” he wrote.
Earlier, Arijit had also shared the announcement on his private X account, Atmojoarjalojo. In another post, he expressed gratitude for his career and said he planned to focus on learning and creating music independently.
“God has been really kind to me. I am a fan of good music and will continue learning and doing more on my own as a small artist,” he wrote.
Will Continue Making Music
The singer clarified that he is not stepping away from music entirely.
“Just to be clear, I won’t stop making music,” Arijit said, responding to fans online.
When questioned about his decision, he replied lightheartedly, calling it “inappropriate” with a laughing emoji.
He also confirmed that he would complete existing professional commitments and that some of his songs would still be released this year.
Fans React With Shock
Fans expressed disbelief and mixed emotions on social media. One user compared the announcement to “Virat Kohli’s Test retirement-level shock,” while others said they respected his choice but would miss his voice in films.
Many praised Arijit for his contribution to Indian music, highlighting iconic songs such as Tum Hi Ho, Binte Dil, and Laal Ishq.
