Heavy Snowfall in Kashmir Disrupts Flights, Closes Srinagar–Jammu Highway
Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall on Tuesday, blanketing the Valley in white and severely disrupting transportation. The renewed spell of snow led to the closure of the Srinagar–Jammu national highway and suspension of flight operations at Srinagar International Airport.
Airport authorities said continuous snowfall and adverse weather conditions made the runway unsafe for aircraft movement. As a precautionary measure, all incoming and outgoing flights were cancelled for the day in the interest of passenger safety.
According to PTI, around 50 flights to and from Srinagar were cancelled, leaving hundreds of tourists stranded. Many were scheduled to return home after spending the weekend and Republic Day holidays in the Valley.
In a statement, the airport said:
“In view of passenger safety, all flights arriving at and departing from Srinagar for today have been cancelled. Operations will resume once weather conditions improve and the runway is cleared and certified safe.”
Officials added that airlines are closely monitoring the situation and will restart services once conditions permit. Passengers have been advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for updates and alternate arrangements.
The airport also released a list of cancelled flights and urged travellers to rely on official sources for the latest information.
