North India continues to reel under dense fog and dropping temperatures as the winter season intensifies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh cold wave warning for Delhi, the National Capital Region (NCR), and several northern states.

According to Monday’s weather bulletin, cold wave conditions are expected over Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand. Dense fog and cold wave conditions may also affect parts of Rajasthan, Bihar, and northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, and Nagaland.

Dense Fog Likely in Delhi

The IMD has predicted dense fog in Delhi and NCR to persist until January 17, 2026. On Monday, Safdarjung recorded a low of 3.2°C, while other areas like Palam and Ayanagar saw temperatures dip to around 3°C. On Sunday, Safdarjung recorded 4°C, and Ayanagar registered the lowest temperature in the city.

CAT III Conditions at IGI Airport

Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport has imposed CAT III conditions due to low visibility caused by dense fog. Flight operations are ongoing under these conditions, which may lead to delays and cancellations. Passengers have been advised to check their flight status with airlines or via the airport website.

Air Quality Remains Poor

As the cold grips the capital, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) continues to hover in the ‘poor’ category. The Central Pollution Control Board reported an AQI of 291 on Sunday at 4 PM. For reference, an AQI of 0–50 is ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’, and 401–500 ‘severe’.
