India Issues Travel Advisory for Venezuela Amid US Military Action
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Saturday issued a travel advisory in view of recent developments in Venezuela, urging Indian citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to the country.
In a statement, the MEA said, “All Indians who are in Venezuela for any reason are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movements, and remain in contact with the Embassy of India in Caracas.”
The MEA also shared emergency contact details, asking Indian nationals in Venezuela to stay in touch with the Embassy of India in Caracas via email at cons.caracas@mea.gov.in or through the emergency phone number +58-412-9584288, which is also available for WhatsApp calls.
The advisory comes after the United States carried out what it described as a “large-scale strike” in Venezuela early Saturday. Washington claimed that President Nicolás Maduro was captured during an overnight operation and flown out of the country following months of heightened pressure. The operation was announced by US President Donald Trump on social media hours after the attack.
Meanwhile, Left parties in India condemned the US action. According to PTI, CPI(M) general secretary M A Baby described the military operation as an “act of international terrorism by US-led imperialism.”
In a post on X, Baby expressed solidarity with the people of Venezuela and urged CPI(M) members to organise protests across the country.
“The bombing of Venezuela is an act of international terrorism by US-led imperialism. Trump’s claim of kidnapping President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, if true, is another blatant violation of international law,” he said.
In a separate statement, the CPI(M) demanded an immediate end to what it called US aggression and sought the withdrawal of American troops from the Caribbean Sea. The party said it “strongly condemns the blatant act of US aggression on Venezuela by bombing various sites in the country.”
