Mahayuti Claims Big Win in Maharashtra Local Body Polls, BJP Emerges Largest Party
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance on Sunday claimed a decisive victory in the Maharashtra local body elections, citing early trends that indicate a sweeping mandate across municipal councils and local bodies.
According to the State Election Commission, polling was held for 286 seats in the Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad elections. While the commission is yet to issue an official final announcement, the ruling Mahayuti alliance asserted that results clearly favour it, coming on the back of its victory in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections and ahead of crucial municipal corporation polls.
Among Mahayuti partners, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the largest party with 118 wins. Based on 263 results shared so far, the alliance has secured a commanding lead.

Top BJP leaders hail victory
Union ministers Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari congratulated the Mahayuti alliance and BJP workers for the performance. In a post on X, Shah thanked voters for backing the alliance in the Nagar Panchayat and Nagar Parishad elections, calling the result an endorsement of the welfare-focused vision of the NDA governments at the Centre and in Maharashtra. He also congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar.
Gadkari, too, praised the BJP’s “resounding victory”, crediting party workers and thanking voters for their continued faith in the party’s development-oriented governance.
Fadnavis calls it a ‘team effort’
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the Mahayuti’s success as a collective effort of the party organisation and the government. Speaking to PTI, he said the alliance fought the elections on a development agenda.
“It is a team effort — organisation and government. I led the campaign on a positive development agenda and did not criticise any political leader or party,” he said, adding that voters were approached on the basis of past work and plans for the future.
Opposition cries foul
Opposition parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, including the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT), virtually conceded defeat but alleged irregularities. Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal congratulated winning party candidates but also accused the Election Commission of “helping” the ruling alliance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed the Mahayuti’s victory was driven by the misuse of money power and alleged tampering of Electronic Voting Machines, saying the opposition could not withstand the “hailstorm” of resources deployed by the ruling alliance.
