Sensex rises 150pts, Nifty above 25,800; SMIDs in green; India VIX up 3%
Indian equity markets were volatile, swinging between gains and losses on Thursday, even as the US Federal Reserve cut key interest rate by 25 basis points on Wednesday.
At 11 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading with gains of 54 points, or 0.10 per cent, at 84,475, while the NSE Nifty was at 25,800, higher by 41 points, or 0.16 per cent.
Eternal, Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki, Kotak Bank, Infosys, BEL, Adani Ports, M&M, L&T, and SBI were among the top gainers on the Sensex today, rising up to 1.7 per cent.
On the downside, Titan, Asian Paints, HCL Tech, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, Trent, Reliance Industries, TCS, Power Grid, Axis Bank, and Bajaj Finserv were the top losers.
In the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap100 indices were trading with gains of 0.65 per cent and 0.48 per cent, respectively.
Among sectors, the Nifty Media index declined 0.9 per cent, followed by the Nifty FMCG index (0.33 per cent), and the Nifty IT index (0.08 per cent). Besides, the Nifty Oil and Gas index fell 0.6 per cent.
On the upside, the Nifty Metal, and Auto indices added 0.6 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively.
