PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi Pay Tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvana Diwas

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were seen together on Saturday morning at the Parliament complex, joining several other leaders to pay homage to Dr BR Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvana Diwas, the death anniversary of the architect of the Indian Constitution.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, President Droupadi Murmu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and other senior leaders were present for the solemn ceremony, where parliamentarians offered floral tributes, reflecting on Ambedkar’s enduring legacy and reaffirming their commitment to his ideals.

Both PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi shared messages on X commemorating the day.

  • PM Modi wrote: “Remembering Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to justice, equality and constitutionalism continue to guide our national journey. May his ideals keep lighting our path as we work towards building a Viksit Bharat.”

  • Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “Humble tributes to Babasaheb Ambedkar on his Mahaparinirvan Diwas. His timeless legacy of equality, justice and human dignity strengthens my resolve to defend the Constitution and inspires our collective struggle for a more inclusive, compassionate India.”

Nationwide Observances

Across India, Mahaparinirvana Diwas is being observed with solemnity. In Mumbai, thousands of devotees are expected to converge at Chaitya Bhoomi, the revered memorial of Dr Ambedkar in Dadar. Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also visited the site to pay their respects.

Anticipating a large turnout, the Mumbai Police have deployed over 5,000 personnel across the Dadar area. Authorities have reinforced security and crowd-management measures to ensure smooth movement and public safety during the 69th Mahaparinirvana Diwas, according to news agency PTI.

The day serves as a reminder of Ambedkar’s vision of justice, equality, and human dignity, and inspires citizens and leaders alike to uphold the principles enshrined in the Constitution.
