‘Something Had to Be Reversed’: Sunjay Kapur Removed Priya Sachdev From Company Board Before His Death, Claims Mother

As the legal dispute over late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate deepens, his mother, Rani Kapur, has alleged before the Delhi High Court that her daughter-in-law Priya Sachdev Kapur took control of his assets and company immediately after his death in June.

Rani claimed that Sunjay had removed Priya from the board of AIPL, the holding firm of Sona Comstar, on 31 March 2023, stating to investors that “something needed to be reversed.” She argued this was inconsistent with Priya taking charge as MD less than a week after his death and reinstating herself as director soon after.

Rani further told the court she was unaware of any valid will and alleged that the one produced by Priya is “likely forged,” saying it contradicts Sunjay’s lifelong acknowledgement of his indebtedness to her.

The dispute stems from a suit filed by Samaira and Kiaan Raj Kapoor, Sunjay’s children with ex-wife Karisma Kapoor, who have accused Priya of forging their father’s will to cut them out of his estate. They have sought an injunction restraining Priya from dealing with the assets until the court rules on the will’s authenticity.

Sunjay Kapur died on 12 June after collapsing during a polo match in England. He married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and, following their 2016 divorce, married Priya Sachdev in 2017, with whom he has a son.
