Miss Universe 2025 Controversy: Miss France Organisation Reconsiders License Renewal After Pageant Turmoil

The Miss Universe 2025 pageant—held in Thailand—has quickly become one of the most turbulent editions in the competition’s history, marred by allegations of fraud, walkouts and judges resigning. In the latest fallout, the Miss France organisation is now reconsidering whether it will renew its Miss Universe license for next year.

Why Miss France Is Questioning Its Miss Universe Participation

According to a Paris Match report dated November 21, the Miss France organisation is “awaiting explanations” before committing to future participation. The controversy began after Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch allegedly clashed with the pageant organiser, triggering chaos on stage and behind the scenes.

Amid the commotion, Miss France Eve Gilles reportedly stood up in solidarity with Fatima Bosch and appeared ready to leave the room — though she eventually stayed. Frédéric Gilbert, president of the Miss France organisation, said they were on “absolute vigilance” throughout the event.

Paris Match quoted Gilbert saying:
“We told her (Eve Gilles), ‘If there’s the slightest thing going on, we’ll withdraw you from the competition and you’ll go home.’”

The ‘Beyond The Crown’ Program at the Center of the Storm

The controversy is said to revolve around the Beyond The Crown program — an initiative that allegedly influenced the selection of the Top 30 contestants. The Miss France organisation claims it was not informed about the program’s role in the judging process and is now demanding accountability.

Since France pays a high annual license fee to participate — reportedly three to four times the cost of Miss World (around $10,000 per country) — the organisation is now reconsidering whether the investment aligns with the pageant’s credibility.

‘They’ll Have to Explain Themselves’: Miss France Demands Transparency

The Miss France organisation told Paris Match:

“We all pay a license fee to send someone, so they’ll have to be held accountable. We can’t just sweep this under the rug. A blunder can happen. But this series of mishaps — they (Miss Universe Organisation) will have to explain themselves.”

The group further noted that when it signs up each year, it does so not just for the competition placement, but for the image, brand value and respect associated with Miss Universe.

If the Miss Universe Organisation does not offer “clear explanations or more precise guidelines,” it said, France may decline to renew its participation in 2026. Several other countries are also reportedly reconsidering their involvement, putting additional pressure on Miss Universe to restore trust and transparency.
