First Look at Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Reveals Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway & Mia Goth
The first look of The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of Homer’s famed epic, has been unveiled through exclusive images shared with Empire magazine. The film, led by Matt Damon as Odysseus, is slated for a July 17, 2026 theatrical release and follows the hero’s arduous, decade-long journey home after the Trojan War.
First Look: Holland, Hathaway & Goth
Tom Holland appears as Telemachus, Odysseus’ son—armoured and intense in the newly released poster.
Anne Hathaway, reuniting with Nolan after The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar, portrays Penelope. She is seen looking into the distance, bow in hand, dressed in a royal blue gown with a red sash, while Mia Goth, playing Melantho, stands behind her in a simple brown outfit.
Nolan’s Vision
Nolan recently revealed that he shot over two million feet of 65mm film—amounting to roughly $3 million worth of stock—making The Odyssey one of his most ambitious technical undertakings. The film was shot entirely on IMAX, with around 100 hours of raw footage captured, according to The Guardian.
Discussing the film’s 91-day shoot, Nolan described the process as “pretty primal,” noting that the team filmed on open seas to authentically capture the vastness and danger of Odysseus’ journey.
“We got the cast who play the crew of Odysseus’ ship out there on the real waves… We really wanted to show how hard those journeys would have been in an unmapped, uncharted world,” he told Empire.
Star-Studded Cast
Beyond Damon, Holland, Hathaway and Goth, The Odyssey features a heavyweight ensemble including Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal. This marks Nolan’s 13th feature film and his first after the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer.
