The NDA alliance led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has surged ahead in the Bihar Assembly election trends, overtaking Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD, which briefly led in the early rounds of counting.

What began as a close contest quickly turned one-sided as the NDA widened its lead beyond 180 seats—well past the majority mark of 122—according to ECI data and PValue Analytics. After initially trailing the RJD, the BJP regained momentum and was leading on nearly 80 seats.

Key seats such as Lakhisarai, Alinagar, Buxar and Patna Sahib showed the BJP ahead, while the RJD held leads in Raghopur, Thakurganj, Amnour, Hajipur and Bodh Gaya as of 9:15 am.

Though trends point to a decisive NDA victory, the final picture will emerge only by evening. Exit polls had broadly predicted an NDA win, with most pollsters forecasting a comfortable majority.

Counting began at 8 am with postal ballots, followed by EVMs. Early trends indicated a strong fight from the Mahagathbandhan, but the momentum appeared to shift firmly in the NDA’s favour as the morning progressed.

Key battles include Tejashwi Yadav’s Raghopur seat, the Mahua seat contested by his brother, the high-profile Alinagar contest featuring folk singer Maithili Thakur of the BJP, and constituencies across the crucial Seemanchal belt—Kishanganj, Purnia, Araria and Katihar.

Bihar voted in two phases on November 6 and 11, recording 65.08% and a record 69.20% turnout respectively—the highest since 1951. A total of 2,616 candidates contested across the 243 constituencies.
