The government on Wednesday officially termed the November 10 car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort a “terrorist incident,” directing investigating agencies to pursue the case with “utmost urgency and professionalism” to ensure the culprits and their sponsors are brought to justice.

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adopted a resolution condemning the explosion as a “heinous act of terror perpetrated by anti-national forces” and observed two minutes of silence in memory of the victims. At least ten people were killed when a Hyundai i20 car, packed with explosives, detonated near the Lal Qila Metro Station on Monday evening.

“The Cabinet expresses its profound grief over the loss of lives in the terrorist incident involving a car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi,” the government statement said. “It reiterates India’s unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

The resolution described the attack as a “dastardly and cowardly act” and directed law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute the perpetrators, collaborators, and sponsors “without delay.”

Officials said the situation continues to be monitored at the highest levels of government. The Cabinet reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard national security and protect the lives of all citizens.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi visited the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital to meet those injured in the blast soon after returning from his Bhutan visit. He also chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security to review the investigation and overall security situation.

“Went to LNJP Hospital and met those injured during the blast in Delhi. Praying for everyone’s quick recovery. Those behind the conspiracy will be brought to justice!” Modi said in a post on X.
