Delhi-NCR on High Alert After Red Fort Car Blast Kills 10

Security has been stepped up across the Delhi-NCR region following a deadly car explosion near the Red Fort on Monday evening that killed 10 people and injured several others.

Police and paramilitary forces have intensified checks at all border points, including the Ghazipur Border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, with every vehicle being thoroughly inspected. Surveillance and police presence have also been ramped up in key areas such as Mandi House and central Delhi.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Bihar have issued high alerts as investigators probe possible terror links behind the blast.

The explosion occurred when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car detonated near the Lal Quila Metro Station traffic signal, gutting nearby vehicles and shattering windows several metres away. Witnesses reported hearing the blast across surrounding neighbourhoods.

Investigation Focuses on Pulwama Doctor
Investigators have identified the suspected driver of the car as Dr. Umar Nabi, a Pulwama-based physician believed to have links with a terror module previously busted in Faridabad, Haryana. Jammu and Kashmir Police have collected a DNA sample from Nabi’s mother to confirm his identity.

According to officials quoted by PTI, Nabi may have detonated the explosives accidentally after being spooked by raids in Delhi-NCR and Pulwama targeting his network. “The suspect was likely panicked after the Faridabad raid and relocated hastily, which may have caused an unintended explosion during transport,” a senior officer said.

However, investigators are still examining all angles, including the possibility of a planned suicide attack.
