Ten Dead, 20 Injured After Fire Rips Through Nursing Home in Bosnia’s Tuzla

At least ten people were killed and around 20 others injured after a fire swept through a nursing home in the northeastern Bosnian town of Tuzla late on Tuesday, officials confirmed.

The blaze broke out at approximately 8:45 p.m. local time, according to a statement issued by the facility, which described the incident as a “tragic night” for residents and staff. Emergency services were deployed to the scene, and firefighters managed to bring the flames under control, but not before the fire claimed multiple lives.

“Unfortunately, 10 residents have died, and around 20 were injured,” the nursing home said, adding that some of the injured were in serious condition and had been transferred to local hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the fire, and an investigation has been launched. Local media reported that several residents had difficulty evacuating due to mobility issues, a factor that may have contributed to the high death toll.

Bosnian officials expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged full support to emergency responders and medical teams.

The Tuzla nursing home fire is one of the deadliest such incidents in the region in recent years, highlighting ongoing concerns over safety standards and emergency preparedness in elderly care facilities across parts of Europe.

More details are expected as authorities complete rescue operations and begin formal identification of the victims.
