Abrar Ahmed Challenges Shikhar Dhawan to a Boxing Match, Sparks Social Media Frenzy

Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has added a new chapter to the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry, not with his spin but with words. In a recent appearance on a Pakistani YouTube channel, the 27-year-old, known as much for his on-field antics as his bowling, challenged former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan to a boxing match — a statement that has gone viral across social media.

When asked which cricketer he would most like to face in the ring, Abrar said:

“Main chahta hu ki main boxing karu aur khada Shikhar Dhawan ho saamne.”
(I want to box and want Shikhar Dhawan in front of me.)

The clip has provoked mixed reactions. Some fans see it as light-hearted banter, while others view it as unnecessary provocation, especially after India defeated Pakistan in a dramatic 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai. Pakistan had collapsed from 113/1 to 146 all out, with India’s Kuldeep Yadav taking 4/30, and Abrar himself claiming 1/29 and celebrating with his now-famous signature gesture aimed at the Indian dugout.

The playful tension continued post-match, with Indian players Arshdeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana mimicking Abrar’s celebration, sparking further online chatter. Dhawan, now retired and mostly focusing on broadcasting and mentoring, has not responded to the challenge.

Fans on both sides of the border have flooded social media with memes, parody posters, and debates imagining the “Dhawan vs Abrar” boxing bout.

Whether viewed as a joke or spirited rivalry, Abrar Ahmed’s remarks highlight how India-Pakistan cricket extends beyond the field, turning off-field comments into viral moments.
