Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) head Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly decided to personally pay the fine imposed on pacer Haris Rauf for using “abusive language” during Pakistan’s Super 4s match against India at the Dubai International Stadium on September 21.

Rauf was docked 30% of his match fees after an incident involving verbal exchanges with Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill and a fiery send-off to Sanju Samson. The pacer had also made gestures referencing Pakistan’s claims of downing six Indian fighter jets during Operation Sindoor. Rauf appeared before match referee Richie Richardson on Friday, pleading “not guilty.” The ICC is yet to issue an official statement regarding the sanctions.

Earlier, the BCCI lodged a complaint with the ICC against Rauf and Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan for provocative gestures. Farhan, who mimicked firing a gun with his bat after reaching a half-century, was given a warning but not fined.

India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav was also fined 30% of his match fees for making political statements during the game, dedicating the victory to the Indian Armed Forces and victims of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The two sides are set to face each other again in the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28 at the Dubai International Stadium. Pakistan and India have played twice in the tournament so far, with India winning both encounters.
