Assam CM Updates on Zubeen Garg’s Mortal Remains, Public Tribute Planned in Guwahati
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday shared updates regarding the late singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away at 52 in Singapore on Friday. Sarma said the post-mortem will be conducted in Singapore, after which Garg’s mortal remains will be handed over to Indian authorities.
The post-mortem is expected to conclude by 11:30 am IST (2 pm SGT), after which preparations will begin to bring the singer’s body back to Assam. Garg’s remains will be kept at Sarusajai, Guwahati, allowing fans to pay their last tributes.
The Assam CM, along with his wife Riniki, visited Garg’s residence in Guwahati to meet the singer’s family. “Riniki and I visited the residence of our beloved Zubeen to stand in solidarity with his family in this hour of grief,” he tweeted.
Zubeen Garg had traveled to Singapore to perform at the North East Festival but reportedly suffered breathing difficulties during scuba diving. He was given CPR and rushed to Singapore General Hospital but was declared deceased around 2:30 pm IST.
Mourning his death, Sarma said, “Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons… His unique voice stirred the masses, creating music that touched hearts and souls. His untimely death leaves a void that will never be filled.”
