Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra Booked in ₹60.48 Crore Cheating Case
Actor Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra, and an unidentified person have been booked by the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly cheating a 60-year-old businessman of ₹60.48 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal linked to their company, Best Deal TV Private Limited.
The FIR, registered at Juhu police station on a complaint by Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, states that a mutual friend introduced him to Kundra. At the time, Shetty and Kundra reportedly held an 87.6% stake in Best Deal TV, an online shopping and retail platform.
Kothari alleged the couple initially sought funds as an investment but later persuaded him to transfer the amount on the promise of monthly returns and repayment of the principal. He transferred the money in 2015. Shetty resigned from the company in 2016, after which Kothari discovered insolvency proceedings against it for allegedly cheating another investor.
According to police, the funds were diverted for personal use. The accused have been booked under IPC Sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 34 (common intention).
