Bengaluru Special Court Convicts Ex-MP Prajwal Revanna in Sexual Assault Case
A Special Court for People’s Representatives in Bengaluru on Friday convicted former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna in a sexual assault and rape case—the first among multiple cases filed against him in 2024.
The conviction pertains to the initial complaint registered at the Holenarasipura Rural Police Station in Karnataka’s Hassan district. The case was filed by a woman who had worked as domestic help at Revanna’s family farmhouse. In her April 2024 complaint, she alleged that Revanna had repeatedly raped her since 2021 and threatened to leak videos of the abuse if she spoke out.
The court had concluded the trial on July 18 and reserved its judgment. The sentencing is scheduled for Saturday, August 2.
Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, is the primary accused in four criminal cases that came to light after over 2,000 obscene videos—allegedly showing him sexually abusing multiple women—surfaced online last year, triggering public outrage and widespread condemnation.
This marks a significant development in the high-profile case that has shaken Karnataka’s political landscape.
