Zelensky Appoints New Ambassadors in Sweeping Diplomatic Overhaul to Bolster Global Support Against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday appointed over a dozen new ambassadors in a major diplomatic reshuffle aimed at strengthening ties with key allies and increasing international pressure on Russia.

The appointments include new envoys to key NATO members—Belgium, Canada, Estonia, and Spain—as well as strategic partners such as Japan, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. The changes are part of a broader effort by Zelensky to reinforce Ukraine’s global position amid ongoing Russian aggression.

This shakeup follows a significant government overhaul launched last week, including the promotion of Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, 39, to Prime Minister. Svyrydenko is well regarded in Washington and seen as a steady hand in managing Ukraine’s wartime economy.

Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna is expected to become Ukraine’s new ambassador to the United States, signaling Kyiv’s intent to rebuild and recalibrate its relationship with the Trump administration.

In a message to Ukraine’s diplomatic corps, Zelensky stressed the urgency of the mission. “Everything that causes Russia pain for its war must be supported,” he said. Despite shifts in U.S. leadership, he added, Ukraine’s objective remains firm: “Ukraine must withstand Russia’s strikes.”
