BSE Tower Receives Bomb Threat via Email; Security Swept, No Explosives Found
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) in Mumbai was placed on high alert Tuesday morning after it received a threatening email claiming that four RDX-laden IED bombs had been planted in its tower building and would detonate at 3 PM.
The alarming message was sent from an email ID bearing the name “Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan,” triggering an immediate response from authorities.
BSE officials promptly informed the police, following which bomb disposal squads and local law enforcement rushed to the scene. A comprehensive search operation was conducted, but nothing suspicious was discovered. “Nothing suspicious was found,” Mumbai Police confirmed, according to news agency ANI.
A case has been registered against an unidentified person at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station under sections 351(1)(b), 353(2), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An investigation is underway to identify and locate the sender.
The bomb threat to the BSE follows a similar incident on Monday involving Amritsar’s Golden Temple, which also received an emailed bomb threat. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) alerted the authorities, prompting a security sweep and an ongoing cyber investigation.
“We received a complaint from SGPC authorities about an email threatening a blast in the Golden Temple,” said Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar. “We are working with cybercrime and other agencies to trace the sender.”
In light of both threats, security has been tightened at both sites as police continue investigations.
