India Slams Pakistan at UN Over ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ Label, Accuses It of Spreading Disinformation

India strongly criticized Pakistan at a United Nations Security Council meeting on Monday, condemning Islamabad’s decision to describe certain groups as “Fitna al-Hindustan” and accusing it of promoting state-backed misinformation under a religious guise.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, said the terminology reflected an organized campaign of disinformation emanating from Pakistan’s establishment.

Calling the designation “officially sponsored misinformation and disinformation dressed in religious terminology,” Harish argued that it was part of a broader effort to foster hostility toward India and divert attention from Pakistan’s domestic political and economic challenges.

Pakistan in 2025 formally designated terrorist groups operating in Balochistan as “Fitna al-Hindustan,” a move India has repeatedly rejected.

During his remarks, Harish also took aim at Pakistan’s civil-military structure, referring to what he described as a “de facto coup” by the military. The comments appeared to reference the appointment of Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first Chief of Defence Forces following constitutional changes that created the post and expanded military command authority.

India further criticized Pakistan over military operations in Afghanistan, alleging that airstrikes had caused civilian casualties. Harish said that portraying such actions as counterterrorism operations did not absolve responsibility for civilian deaths and injuries.

He also accused Pakistan of habitually blaming neighboring countries for its internal problems, asserting that such efforts would not succeed in deflecting scrutiny from its own challenges.
